As my first post on Croatia stated - this was a truly
memorable vacation, but two of my favorite experiences were renting a motorbike
on the island of Vis and exploring the stunning Old Town area of Dubrovnik.
If you watched Game of Thrones, Dubrovnik’s Old Town is the
backdrop of Kings Landing, a fictional city in the popular HBO series. It was
mind blowing that a fortress city this big and full of medieval architecture
and fortifications still exists today. People live right in Old Town with tourists
wandering through daily and enjoying the extraordinary scenery.
Walking the walls of Old Town and then meandering down
through the squares and shops was a highlight of Croatia. If I could go back to
Dubrovnik, I’d eat lunch in one of the cliffside cafes and then jump into the
Adriatic after, as we saw many do. We did not have swimsuits or a lot of time, so we
settled for hiking around the city walls, stopping to enjoy the views and
a beverage along the way, before heading down to dinner. The twisty, narrow corridors of Old Town housed hundreds of shops
and restaurants to visit on our last night in Croatia.

The solution was an afternoon of adventure on a motorbike,
which allowed us to zip up to the sunset bar and restaurant views at Fort
George and then ride across the island back to see Komiža, before returning to Vis
for a dinner along the coast. It was truly the best way to see the island. Many
scooters require only a driver’s license, but they were all rented. Thankfully my boyfriend, Eric, has a motorcycle license so we could still go. If you ever get to the island of Vis, I highly recommend exploring it
via scooter.

Croatia is a must-see gem of a country and I would put the island of Vis and the city of Dubrovnik at the top of the list. Happy travels!
