You’ve trusted me before. Now, I’m asking you to trust me again.

I’ve been a licensed Minnesota attorney for nearly 20 years. I’m an Iraq War veteran who served eight years in the Minnesota Army National Guard, a Moorhead Spud, and an MSUM Dragon. I’ve built my life and career in Moorhead, from running my own law office to serving as a District Court Judge. I stepped down from the bench only after the sudden loss of my husband, Lieutenant Adam Gustafson of the West Fargo Police Department, to care for our three young children.
Like many communities in recent years, Clay County has seen an increase in serious and violent crime. While trends have stabilized, public safety must remain a top priority, and repeat and violent offenders must be held accountable. When mental health and addiction drive criminal behavior, smart intervention can break the cycle and make our community safer. We need solutions that lead to long-term success, not just short-term fixes. We cannot rely on outdated approaches simply because “that’s how it’s always been done.”
Effective prosecution requires collaboration with law enforcement, defense attorneys, and community partners to both enforce the law and prevent crime. I will bring needed innovation and leadership while providing clear, practical advice to the County Board and officials on the civil issues that affect their work and our community.
It’s time for a change. It’s time to return to service.
